It's a combination of museum, design resource center, art gallery and furniture showroom all under one big roof or shall we say many roofs? The jaw-dropping architecture is made up of several houses that are connected and stacked together. Unlike anything we've ever seen. VitraHaus is located at the Vitra Campus in beautiful Basel, Switzerland. Each room is carefully designed with residential settings and showcases that evoke the feeling of home. The incredible interior design is made up of accessories and furniture from designer greats; Charles & Ray Eames, Jean Prouve, Hella Jongerius, Jasper Morrison and many others. Guests can also interact via touchscreens throughout Vitrahaus to explore and learn more about specific designs and designers. The touchscreens also allow you to make purchases directly through Vitra. Walking through the Vitrahaus, one can really appreciate the familiar designs and modern objects. A noteworthy feature of the VitraHaus is the organic staircase that seems to complement and tie-in the spaces. There are also very cleverly placed windows that give guests a peek into some of the other settings. The VitraHaus is nothing short of a truly monumental design project! Before you were given the chance to choose, you had already accumulated a room full of things. From your baby clothes to your bassinet to that box of toys, you were a consumer by proxy. As you grew, you needed more clothes, more toys, bigger and better furniture pieces. Your life is one long trail of used and discarded goods and as an adult you've become the primary consumer. Now it is you who buys the disposable items and it is you who feeds the beast of extraction, production, acquisition and waste. Your home is filled to the brim with objects and items that are either forgotten or destined for the dumpster. You are far from alone. Practically every living member of modern society has their own story of stuff, and that's the problem. We love double duty products and thought this one was quite special. It has conversation piece written all over it! My Deer stool functions as a stool (obviously) and a modern piece of wall art. Definitely on the travel wishlist next time we're visiting Poland. The andel's Hotel Lodz, located in beautiful Poland, celebrates it's architectural charm and modern atmosphere. From the grand facade to the historical interior backdrop, the boutique Hotel honors the spirit of a former Polish textile factory. As you enter the grand space you are welcomed by dramatic iron columns and exposed masonry. One of the most impressive features of the Hotel is the energetic play of color and light from the elliptical lightwells and organic floor patterns. The andel's - Czech for "angel", consists of 278 bedrooms and apartments, a large atrium, a bar, cafe restaurant and a business centre. The interior design of the hotel is stunning! The modern furniture and color contrasts between the old and new are perfect. Each room carefully combines a fresh contemporary style with existing vaulted ceilings, brick walls and cast iron frames to create a unique experience. The spaces are characterized by exclusive materials, clear lines and vivid colors. Andel's image gallery is very convincing for a definite weekend stay. ;) Via Contemporist. The frame is beautifully made from distressed leather lined with wood. A hanging bronze puck completes the look. The Captain's Mirror (great name BTW) is available in two sizes and finishes.
