SND recognizes that the process of forming singular objects out of natural materials is inherently wasteful, as this approach leaves large volumes of "downfall" material. The challenge becomes not how to source the input material that best matches the desired finished product, but instead one that attempts to design a multiple of objects of varying scales and proportions that utilizes all the material. This generative process allows the off - cuts from one piece of furniture to be up-cycled into the inspiration and material for another.
Modern design that carries a strong belief in solid material, proportion, joinery, and timeless design can be difficult if not impossible to find, particularly with respect to small objects for everyday life. As a consequence, the Jones' set out to design and make the pieces themselves; a place for letters, utensils, magazines, a chopping block, shelves, or a tray. Though no longer cutting, sanding and finishing each individual piece with their own hands, they remain heavily involved with the wood sourcing, selection, milling, and finishing of the pieces, and allow their own experience forming the work, to influence and inspire their designs.
