Paradise in London
Jean Prouvé's La Maison Tropicale will be on display on the front lawn of the London Design Museum

In order to address the not so stellar housing issues in French African colonies, designer Jean Prouvé sought out a unique way to build affordable housing for those living in the Congo in the 1950s.
More than fifty years after Prouvé’s homes were designed, made and shipped, they have been taken apart and brought back to Europe for much needed repairs. All the while the London Design Museum is repaying Prouvé for his diligence in helping others with a fantastic display that includes one of the Maison Tropicale homes. The home on display is owned by Andre Balazs, who bought the structure in a New York City auction in 2006. It has been on display in Queensboro and is soon to be at the Tate Modern in London before it finds its way back to the depths of the Congo.
