Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas’ idea of a "generic city" has been taken on by the United Arab Emirates.
Koolhaas’ city will be built on a square island, immersed in the Persian Gulf.
The precision in which the giant, contemporary city is laid out includes taller buildings on the southern end to shield the sun and a contemporary mix of slender buildings, squat buildings, spiraling buildings and even novel circular buildings.
With tourism’s dollar signs in their eyes, the United Arab Emirates has agreed to integrate this artificial island city into their landscape to self-promote their Gulf locale.
As Koolhaas says, "it is finding optimism in the inevitable;" inevitable quite possibly meaning the buildup of every last space our planet has to offer us.
