Since the beginning of art, which was quite possible at the dawn of our time, artist’s had the freedom of choosing their own colors, composition and materials.
But what if that freedom in color choice was taken away? Or just taken down a notch?
Lucky for our questioning minds the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Metropolitian Museum of Art and Washington D.C.’s citywide festival are looking for the same answers.
Each of these institutes are seeking out artists who use pre-existing paint - you know, those paints that come from the same paint chips you probably collected from the hardware store as a kid - to form new ideas on the way artists use color.
